Theme: The Joy of His Presence

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Last year we focused on the beauty of God’s attributes described in Exodus 34:6:

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,”

These were fully seen in the person of Jesus.  When Jesus spoke we heard God’s words.  When Jesus healed we saw God’s compassion.  In word and deed, Jesus revealed the Father.  We learn that we serve an approachable, friendly God who delights in being with His children.  The love of the Father to the Son in the spirit was revealed at Jesus’ baptism.  And, this home life of God is what we are to share.  Jesus used the joyful expectations of a marriage fest to describe himself.  He was like a bridegroom going to prepare a place for us in His Father’s household.

Two years ago, we shared the Father’s pleasure to give us His kingdom.  Last year, we finished with the nearness of God.  He is the God of nearness.

Acts 17:28

‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’
As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

This year we will endeavour to bring these two ideas together by looking firstly at the meaning of tabernacling with God.  Then we will expand Psalm 16:11.

1. You make known to me the path of life;
2. You will fill me with joy in Your presence,
3. With eternal pleasures at Your right hand.

In this present journey, we can have moments of this joy and pleasure when we experience the beauty of God.  This is something we should pray for each other to receive and experience no matter what the circumstances are.  This occurs because the Holy Spirit is God within us.

One day, when we are free from all the limitations of this flesh, we will be able to experience without restriction God’s eternal life.  This will mean that we will know and live God face to face, formed into the likeness of Jesus.  We will have the Holy Spirit flowing from us without restriction in a joyous fellowship of shalom.

At that time heaven will come to earth and all things will become complete when God is all and in all.
